The flu vaccine

The flu vaccine

The media recommend the flu vaccine to people most at risk: the elderly, people with chronic illnesses, and healthcare workers. This vaccine obviously does NOT protect against the Coronavirus, but it is a useful element of defence.
Our health system has purchased all the doses of flu vaccine destined for the Italian territory, and is managing the administration of the vaccine through local vaccination centres, general practitioners and freely chosen paediatricians, so that those who have priority can be treated. This means that the vaccine is currently NOT available for direct sale in pharmacies.
As a pharmacist, I understand this logic and therefore I recommend that if you belong to a risk category and have already been vaccinated in past years, you contact your general practitioner or the vaccination centre to book the administration.

" What about those who will not be vaccinated, can they do something else to protect themselves? Of course, all the criteria for staying healthy always apply: moderate physical exercise if possible in the open air, proper nutrition, starting with an adequate intake of vitamin C and vitamin D, which are also involved in a better personal defence against Covid19. For vitamin D, it may be useful to carry out a simple test to find out whether one's level of this vitamin in the blood is adequate.
